Short-term / interim fostering

This is a type of fostering which is temporary, and can last for a few days, weeks and sometimes many months.

A very important type of fostering that gives stability to children and young people, while plans and decisions are made about their future.

Emergency fostering

This involves looking at after children at very short notice.

Emergency foster carers care for children for a short period, until they are able to return home or move to other foster carers.

Long term / permanent fostering

This is when foster carers look after a child or young person until they reach adulthood and move on to independence.

Supported care

Helping young people stay in a family home, while they develop the skills to move on to independence.

Short breaks fostering

Providing planned support to children, families, and foster carers.

A type of fostering which is suitable for those who aren’t able to commit to full-time fostering.
